Latinx Playwrights’ Workshop Festival
This project started as a weekly gathering for playwrights Diana Mucci, Linda Amayo-Hassan, and Mel Nieves, to hear their work read out loud and to provide one another with valuable feedback. Then they decided to share their work publicly.
With the support of fellow creators, the inaugural Back of the Yards Latinx Playwrights' Workshop Festival was formed. Watch the recording of our live event here: https://youtu.be/TFp092EFchk |
SPIT
In this powerful presentation, Diana gives a relatable and eye-opening account of her experience growing up Afro-Latinx in an all-White Chicago neighborhood. From being placed in a remedial reading group for being bilingual, spit on and bullied - to Valedictorian, Summa Cum Laude, and the first in her family to graduate college, Diana motivates and inspires students on how they, too, can achieve their dreams - in spite of what obstacles might be thrown in front of them by their peers, teachers, well-meaning parents and society.
